Are you charging your scooter or power chair batteries the correct way?
A customer’s scooter went dead at the mall and she called me and wanted to know why this would happen on her new scooter. I asked her the last time she charged the batteries and she said…”I have to charge the batteries???”
She had a scooter for over 3 months and had never charged the batteries. 90% of repair calls I receive are issues related to improper charging. If charged correctly, the batteries normally last from 12-24 months…some last for much longer!
To maximize the daily range, overall life of your batteries and save $$$, here are some pro tips:
- 1.Charge your batteries on a daily basis no matter how much you use your scooter or power chair. The charger will automatically stop charging the batteries once they are fully charged.
- 2.Don’t leave the batteries uncharged for days or weeks on end. They can lose their charge quickly and go dead.
- 3.Don’t leave the charger plugged into the scooter or power chair for days or weeks. Even though it has an automatic cut off to stop charging the batteries, it can cause other damages if left plugged in for extended periods.
- 4.If you are not using your scooter or power chair regularly, disconnect the battery box or batteries from the unit to avoid draining the power.
- 5.Turn off the unit if you are parked somewhere or not actively using it.
- 6.Keep your scooter or power chair in a dry, climate controlled area.
- 7.Always replace the batteries with the same Amp battery that was originally installed in the unit.
If you apply the above recommendations to the daily use of your scooter or power chair, you will enjoy years of safe travels and independence with confidence. To find the best deals and quickest turnaround time on replacement batteries, try local battery stores like
